most resilient commanders edh

Post by

I prefer Wilson, he's got the trample built in and lower cost means he can get removed once and still be equal to thrun in cost. Its just not possible without something ultra-specific like Phasing him Out. Plenty of fetches, and play lands from graveyards and you are constantly making threats. child of alara - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) I just don't get how Henzie's mana curve works sustainably. This deck is a little fragile and janky, but King Macar's stock keeps going up as more and more cards get indestructible. Combat damage triggers, tap/untap tricks, instant speed/flash shenanigans, stax, and voltron are all options. Ie I play a cedh sisay list that has around 15 or so different combos and am able to dodge any and all stax pieces by switching the one i go for. Tergrid. It's basically a French vanilla creature with an alternative mana cost, but when the hell are you not going to have artifacts on the battlefield? And remember: you can upvote a comment even if you disagree with it, if you think it's a discussion worth having. It's relatively low budget and doesn't abuse stax abilities but it's quite fun to play. My play group is very high power and generally anything goes with combos, stax, etc. So any Commander I haven't enjoyed (such as those mentioned up there) never made it past the drawing board. Random Commander. What decks can survive trial by fire and still pull off a win through the hate? thrun - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) [[Volo]] has been a lot of fun mostly due to the weird board states you can produce with cloning effects and copies from having unique types casted. With Triskelion or Walking Ballista, Mikaeus creates an infinite damage combo and wins you the game also infinitely triggering your aristocrat triggers. If you were looking to build an optimized high power Derevi deck would you just build it is as a [[birthing pod]] deck? . I think a lot of decks are like that, if you are willing to go to CEDH level and willing to pay a lot of money for your deck. Click the add button on any card to start building your decklist. Commander lets you run stuff with other colors mana symbols in the text box, EDH does not. Hello everybody I am currently deciding what deck to piece together as my second commander deck. Enough countermagic to protect itself, and the ability to play Niv and combo win the same turn (especially with Greaves or Swifty Boots) gets around the sweepers. Lorthos - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) Toggo - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) The other deck I have that does this is [[samut voice of dissent]] shes a beater, the flash is huge for helping mitigate setbacks and giving creatures haste is similar to yeva. Hes hard to kill, and its very rarely worth it to kill him. Please note there are some expensive cards, especially the Mana Crypt, so I would advise making some proxies to test the configuration in your pods. Hes my go to resilient as fuck commander. That and Yuriko are both dickhead cards, imo commander tax is either something you all have or nobody has. To be honest probably any bant deck, or simic/Selesnya, green I play a partner deck of [[Ishai, Ojutai Dragonspeaker]]/ [[Slurrk, All-Ingesting]] it is pretty resilient. Top Golgari Commanders Popular themes for Golgari Lifegain 11365 decks Aristocrat8129 decks Sacrifice 4630 decks Token 4590 decks Saproling Token3786 decks +1/+1 Counter3502 decks -1/-1 Counter2995 decks Graveyard2748 decks Planeswalker2616 decks Pod 2291 decks Lands 1743 decks Deathtouch1550 decks Mill 1497 decks Treasure 1295 decks He pays his commander tax back with a reduction in blitz, and ever blitzed creature replaces itself so its difficult to run out of gas. Don't know how resilient the rest of the deck is, but he's not going to be in your command zone much. Commanders are part of the combo and hit the table when its about to go off. That dude never stays dead. For more info you can check the Banned and Restricted Cards on wizards site. Mimeo and Jarad are fairly resilient, HD Sidisi is not. Play a wizard, pay one, profit. Create an account to follow your favorite communities and start taking part in conversations. Oketra is my token deck and a fun one at that. I play [[Karametra, God of Harvests]] in EDH and she's resilient even beyond the obvious "indestructible" text line. Just try to get rid of that guy. Card Kingdom $1069 - 1105 . I built it and hate green but love it, Titania, Protector of Argoth - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) Derevi Flicker us what I'm rebuilding right now. If you can survive the early onslaught, your big beaters will crush anyone who hasnt developed a board state. hes been my main deck for 7 years and the most ive ever paid for him has been 4 (once or twice), his cost reduction and relatively innocent looking effect (you can pay full price for a creature once per turn) keep him from being the target of removal pretty often--hard for people to justify 2-3 cmc removal on a guy when they know youll cast him for 3 again anyways. Karador Boonweaver, Prossh Food Chain, Animar (can't remember the name of his combo, but results in a giant unstoppable Animar in one turn), Derevi Stax, super tuned Narset, EDIT: Ancestral Animar, link to deck in comments below. Maybe if I got hurt or got poisoned by an assassin, she would use her magic to bring me back like she does with a +1/+1 counter creature and she would be really worried about me, even if she tried to deny it. Shock-horror! [[Gyome, Master Chef]] did this for me. Ive been feeling very safe with [[Henzie]] at the helm. Nezahal, Primal Tide - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER)Sisay, Weatherlight Captain - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER)Old Stickfingers - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER)[[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call. anger - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) [[inalla, archmage ritualist]] is probably my most resilient deck, because I never have to cast her lol. They look like late 1800s nature paintings and I love it. Color Id. Or alive. And since [[molten echoes]] and [[harmonic prodigy]] were printed, it gives it even more etb support. [[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call. 7 yr. ago. [[Norin the wary]] One of the hardest cards to remove from the battlefield in the game just add red enchantments or creatures that trigger of him entering and your good. I'm sure you can get creative with them but unless you intentionally gimp yourself, most games will feel the same. [[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call. If you enjoy tutor decks, more power to you. [[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call, Thrun, the Last Troll - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) Phage the Untouchable has the strong ability to make a single combat damage cause the opponent to be defeated, just like a Vorpal Sword, and that's something we want. Kresh? Allowing you to fill your graveyard with stuff to reanimate. You can see how crucial your commander is in EDH format, but with hundreds of legendary units to pick from, which are worth your time? However, in terms of removal I would say [[sigarda, host of herons]] would better. Purphoros - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER)Nine-Fingers Keene - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER)[[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call, Keene seems like one of the perfect guesses there is. Obstensibly hard to remove and good usually leads people to talk about [[Sigarda, Host of Herons]] and [[Derevi, Empyrial Tactician]]. Derevi - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) A person only has so much non-destroy removal. My Norin deck warped my playgroup by causing people to run stifle effects to keep him gone, lol. I would probably just swap the crypt and vault for some other two mana rocks. The Commander's Quarters is your Magic the Gathering source that helps you Command Your Budget! Regenerate, Ward, Protection, etc. [[licia, sanguine tribune]] can be rest for WBR at any part of the game, and often decks play around saccing her for value with stuff like [[disciple of bolas]] and [[ruthless technomancer]]. He revives himself when killed, and if its not his controllers turn then he comes back as a non-creature artifact, meaning you need more general removal or artifact specific removal to deal with him a second time. I like henzie, Ive tried a couple of builds and I couldnt seem to make it work. Answer: I don't see Edgar Markov ever being a top-tier CEDH commander for several reasons. All of these factors add up to one of the most resilient and resourceful Equipment decks possible. I'm honestly surprised that I haven't seen more Theros based god generals. It's become the glue that helps to hold the collectible card game's fandom together. Ikoria made those counters ridiculous. Edit: Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. Or big value creature decks, like [[yarok]], yarok - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) These mill / dredge commanders can be fun, and they have some new tools in Angel of Suffering and Cemetery Tampering. Very easy to find [[Command Beacon]] and recur it over and over to avoid commander tax. Solid idea, I like the colors as well. Breaching Leviathan - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) My friend's deck was made to proc Meren multiple times and it was unplayable. Definitely my pick for a resilient commander :), surprised no one has mentioned [[karador]], depending on the amount of grave hate in your meta, he should basically always cost 3 and his access to the GY provides a lot of late game inevitability no matter what power level you build him at, karador - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) I developed the 20 Easy Steps in order to make the functional usage of the infamous 60 Easy Steps developed by N o o b z a u r s reasonable to use. Seems like [[Derevi]] and [[Yuriko]] are the top two. Im not even running like good birds and its pretty okay still. Skullbriar, the walking grave - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) He's a piece of Magic history, with his thumbs. He's been the most consistent commander I've been able to immediately cast following removal. I've got ten decks and she's my weakest because I deliberately avoid any infinite combos. Just making lots of big stompy elementals really speaks to my inner Timmy. I got a friend who's burnt out and still want to play EDH with us. [[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call. Surprised no one has yet mentioned [[Koma, Cosmos Serpent]]. Least fun to play: The opposite. Overwhelm your opponents with value from etb, combat, and death triggers then pull ahead on resources with cheap reanimation. [[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call. Most fun commander I have currently is probably [[Titania, Natures force]]. Derevi - cmc 4 almost always, competitive colors. [[muldrotha]], [[child of alara]], [[kenrith]] can all do big things with little board state or hand. norin the wary - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) omnath locus of rage - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) Thank y'all for your time and have fun brewing! My playgroup has recently embraced the old saying 'The best defence is a good offence' and are more actively disrupting each other's game plans, this has made some of the more glass cannon decks less viable. Anything that can play w/o the commander - elfball, UGx goodstuff decks, grixis stax, Azami. I would say for replayability [[yuriko, the tiger's shadow]] for on board I would say [[thrun, the last troll]]. Thanks for the ideas everyone! It's a voltron deck that requires 0 rebuild time if the rest of the pod finds a way to take him out. Out of curiosity, what decks do you have the most trouble facing with this deck? Why would you play Lord Wingrace when you get more value from Korvold? Some off the oppistions includes Maelstrom Wanderer, GBw graveyard good stuff, Azami, Narset, Damia, stax decks, and other such competitive decks. Kruphix, God of Horizons - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) I originally made it because green is my least favorite color, but it ended up being one of my fav decks. Wilson, Refined Grizzly - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) He's extremely tough to remove because you can bounce him to your hand at instant speed for 0 mana, so Commander Tax is unlikely to be a factor. There is a stigma to her though, most people will assume the worst, no matter your build. I know Slicer is used a lot as an aggro commander but I am looking more for a combo deck with one of these. 15 Rats. That being said, Ghalta will likely stay in the command zone if you cant get some other creatures into the battlefield. View Primer Playtest Buy More Highlighter $1.49 This also ensures you draw more gas in the late game and less lands. [[Marchesa the Black Rose]] is pretty good at staying on the field. [[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call, Do you have a list? Also has the advantage of being flexible for any power range by changing the enchantments that are in the deck. I've never had him die a single time lol. I like your list, thank you for sharing. Prossh on the other hand just comes back strong every time, and any two given cards plus CASTING not necessarily resolving Prossh constitute a valid wincon. Im surprised about this not coming up sooner also. These are some that Ive tried and havent really clicked with. Sure, I don't have an opinion to try out some interactions, but it gives me a basic feel for some stuff. Tergrid. [[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call. You have a lot of answers already but Ill mention that it would have been easier to narrow down the answers if you had included a price range. It's just so disappointing that so many jund commanders and playstyles get overshadowed by the efficiency and resilience of Korvold. Derevi. [[Yuriko]] and [[Derevi]] can both cheat the commander tax and thus get pretty resilient. [[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call. Press J to jump to the feed. I got a friend who's burnt out and still want to play EDH with us. Norin and [[purphoros, god of the forge]] are best friends. Haven't played with him in probably over a year, but still love him. https://www.moxfield.com/decks/D3L3VNKjlE2m0107bBVa-w, it's built to play in strong non-cEDH pods. Least fun for me have been creature-type based commanders like [[Wilhelt]], [[Giada]] and most recently (unfortunately) [[Belakor]]. I'm sure you could build it somewhat Staxy or as a combo deck (considering you have Simic which tends to get a bit silly on its own) but honestly just having a constantly threatening commander swinging with wildly unpredictable abilities thanks to mutate is pretty damn fun. I'll give a brief overview of how the deck works and show the full deck list, as well as a link to a gameplay video on youtube. Least fun to play against: Decks with hard stax like [[Winter Orb]] that make you unable to even play magic. Oloro, Ageless Ascetic - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) [[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call. [[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call. Just making lots of big stompy elementals really speaks to my inner Timmy. Sad times paying 3 or 5 for Norin. You get board wiped, you play Izoni and get a ton of bugs which you can sac for draw/lifegain. But it's alright; truly a card that rewards skill and knowledge about your deck and your position in the game. You can't get rid of him. #13. Probably should update his list at some point. [[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call. They can also be played as normal enchantments in your 99, but they do basically nothing unless you have your commander on board. Jeska, Thrice Reborn - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) Another really fun deck was [[Wulfgar]]. [[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call, Not saying it's one of the most resilient, but my [[Xyris, the writhing storm]] deck will survive most things, Xyris, the writhing storm - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) [[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call. [[henzie]] hes low cost and killing him makes everything in the deck cheaper. It can also go infinite by untapping mana sources with Derevi using things like [[Ashnod's altar]]+[[chromatic orrery]] or [[peregrine drake]], Here is the list if you want to have a look. if i can get to 7 mana to cast [[omnath locus of rage]] chances are i can get to 9 11 and 13 in the following turns. Making it so those two can just never pay it was a big design mistake. First game I played with my Norin deck was against a [[Toggo]] deck and a [[Niv-Mizzet, Parun]] deck. Basically any commander that enable flash shenanigans or haste so you can do stuff on the turn you play cards is huge. If you play it right board wipes are almost a non factor and you can rebuild board states very easily. If your commander has "Choose a background", you can use one background as a secondary commander, giving you access to its color. Absolutely zero fun to play against to the point where Ill ask the person to run a different deck, Titania, Natures force - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER)[[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call. Thank you, i did proposed him Nezahal, but as i have a huge thalassophobia, i kinda don't want to see that horrid creature. Purphoros 1.0, Beastmasters ascension, Triumph of the horde/Return of the wildspeaker.lots of very compartmentalized ways to win, without even delving into his combos. Create an account to follow your favorite communities and start taking part in conversations. stasis - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) [[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call. Secondly, he is neither a combo piece nor can he tutor for combo pieces. Korvold players never seem to go below 7 cards in hand, that's what bothers me personally so much. As you're looking to win through combat damage, Equipment like Nettlecyst and Fireshrieker are automatic inclusions. Create an account to follow your favorite communities and start taking part in conversations. Prossh - (G) (MC)[[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call, I'd say Tasigur because Delve and Card advantage. Reddit and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to provide you with a better experience. Dont get me wrong, it is powerful and fun initially. I have respect for the og, he feels like a sleeper for sure. Least fun? It makes me feel horrible inside to play it, becuase it reminds me of how I'll never get to be with Marchesa, and cuddle with her, and have her hold my head in her lap. The deck can take heavy targeting and still feel functional most of the time. Beledros Witherbloom - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) Coming out at 3 mana lets you roll right into blitzing your 4 drops. Tasigur - cmc 1 almost always, competitive colors. The biggest hindrance to God of Storms is that the trigger can only happen on the first card you draw on your own turn . Aristocrat decks just get so much value off their creatures dying anyways its pretty much never worth removing them unless you can exile them and they usually have sac outlets to avoid that exile removal completely. But quickly found out that without a few hundred dollars it's actually quite crap. Meren of Clan Nel Toth 10. Sigarda, Host of Herons - (G) (MC)[[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call. sigarda, host of herons - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) Making it so those two can just never pay it was a big design mistake. With my setup, it can't usually win through Null Rod(all combos are blanked by it), so that is really the only weakness. Has anyone come up with good combos to go with one of these 15 commanders? This commander has come up a few times now and it does seem spicy. I hate it. [[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call, In a similar vein, [[Lucius the Eternal]], Lucius the Eternal - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) [[Yuriko]] hands down is one of the best as long as you can get a 1/1 through. [[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call. In a nekusar feild with alot of wheel effects having a huge GY is Karador's best friend. White also adds the best spot removal in the form of Condemn (for those tricky generals), Path to Exile, and of course Swords to Plowshares. Expedition Map, Mind Stone, and Burnished Hart are just a few examples of Commander staples with different converted mana costs that can hit the graveyard. I like to exile and re cast him with [[food chain]]. [[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call. EDH Recommendations and strategy content for Magic: the Gathering Commander. [[determined iteration]] is such a cool card in this deck. all are good stuff to have available for him, and then just pile on more and more mutations or enchantment auras to pump Brokkos to the max. And if you skip out on Doubling Season, Primal Vigor, the Ozolith, and Vorinclex, the deck is dirt cheap. A mix of Combat damage, etbs, attack triggers, death triggers, and reanmation all pull together this awesome deck. Least fun? [[Oloro, Ageless Ascetic]] because you get his effect without casting him. Do you know what playing her is like. I think "light stax is fun to play against" might be the point of contention. I play this commander personally. Derevi is without a doubt the most resilient commander in the game though - especially with the typical Lockdown-focused builds. Squee, The Immortal - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) He has several paths to victory, 1 being making himself a huge flier, 2 being aristocrats and other sacrifice pay offs, and 3 being combo. It's a combo machine that can win out of nowhere easily and is pretty resilient. Norin the wary - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER)[[cardname]] or [[cardname|SET]] to call. I really like [[wilhelt, the rotcleaver]]s ability to just not care about board wipes. I think Henzie has been one of the purest midrange strategies Ive played in edh. If there were one right answer to this question it'd be Derevi. It can probably be stronger but I like it as it is, https://archidekt.com/decks/2194247#Derevi, Ashnod's altar - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) The last board sweeper is somewhat controversial, and while I do not endorse the use of Armageddon I will grant that it is often seen as a staple in a white EDH deck. Korvold - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) Many tribal decks share creature types across other colors. I know Korvold all too well, we have a regular in my playgroup and he will play it occasionally. Resilient Commander Hello, I need your help,. What is background? Crystalline Giant - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) I would have to second Karador. I appreciate you put her in the same category as those two. Id add Tasigur as a guy who can dodge it quite well too, Yuriko - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) It's just not my favorite. Derevi has so many different avenues to build around. Henzie Toolbox Torre - (G) (SF) (txt) (ER) Bant in general is very flexible, and Derevi can function in a lot of roles depending on what the deck around her wants. I appreciate this suggestion. When I first made my Ulamog deck, I was searching Magiccards.info for indestructible commanders Because there is something satisfying about a commander that is hard to get off/keep off the table. Even if an opponent pulls off a boardwipe, I have tons of recources to rebuild quickly. Probably Yuriko in my experience, or a deck that doesnt really need the commander out. Slapping any type of indestructible on her and she's impossible to remove outside of mass exile or -X/-X effects. The Emiel deck is so good at ramping and protecting itself from targeted removal, and with Karmic Guide, exceedingly good at board wipe recovery. Also I'm pretty sure I've paid commander tax twice in the three years I've had this deck. I'd say it's a three way tie between [[Braids, Arisen Nightmare]], [[Purphoros, Bronze-Blooded]] and [[God-Eternal Oketra]]. Got a little better once I realized she's only played for the colors but overall was just boring and low power for the money. Aside from that, the deck hits most of the points you're after; it can combo but doesn't have to, doesn't rely on commander, has life gain/bleed, copy, graveyard synergies, isn't anti- synergy, and it's pretty efficient. Derevi has been recommended the most, Ill have to give her a try. Mix and match as desired. What makes her up here is precisely her first ability, which escapes the Commander concepts even more than the last two positions. Stax is probably the the strongest at high power, you can definitely put a pod combo in there though. Derevi. I had a tevesh and thrasios list for awhile I took apart. It also wins on the battlefield, meaning the deck can be pretty "soft" to removal as there's only so many Fork effects you can play.
